UC Davis

.

Part of my job in advising students is a commitment to visiting campuses throughout the country to share my insights from visits. Since that isn’t happening right now (for me or my clients), I’m going to be featuring a college on the blog each day for the next month..if you want to connect with a current Davis student and ask questions, send me an email.

UC Davis

Davis is a small town alternative to some of the other UCs, with almost 30,000 undergrads, it doesn’t feel small when you are walking around campus. Davis is located 20 miles west of Sacramento and about 70 miles north of San Francisco. It’s close enough to a big city and also close enough to Tahoe. It feels like everyone is on a bike and there is a definite environmental consciousness among students.

As far as studies go, Davis is science oriented and known for its environmental and agricultural science and it’s the number one place for prevet majors. Other popular majors include psychology, economics and managerial economics. 85% of students graduate within six years. Students are serious at Davis and students generally take a “work hard” approach. There are a lot of research opportunities for undergrads.

Sports are a part of the campus life; Davis is Division I and competes in the Big West Conference. There are about 40 club sports and more than 25 intramural teams. Outdoor activities are abundant and it’s definitely an active community.

The town of Davis is small but full of restaurants and entertainment. Students make up about half the town’s population and most upperclassmen live off campus. Davis is a great option for students looking for a place that isn’t too big and has access to the outdoors; expect to work hard and take school seriously.
