Goodreads Best Books of 2018

Goodreads released their annual readers’ choice awards today. One of their categories is YA fiction and there are so many great books on their list, I wanted to share some of my favorites here.

Becky Albertalli, who wrote Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda has two books on the list, the #1 YA readers’ choice is Leah on the Offbeat.  I really enjoyed this book, Albertalli’s writing style and Leah’s character and challenges. Some fans and teens we’ve talked to who loved Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens didn’t like Leah’s character. It is the second book in the Creekwood series, Simon being the first, so we’d stay start with him.

Albertalli also co-wrote What If It’s Us with Adam Silvera, which was number 3 on the Goodreads YA list. If you like romance, New York, and a beautifully written story, this is a great read.

What other books on this list have you read?

The other book many of our students have been raving about is, Children of Blood and Bone, which is Goodreads’ best Debut author book. As a sidenote, this book was selected for the first reader-recommended pick for Jimmy Fallon’s book club.

Have you read any of these? We have a stack of other books we’re diving into we’ll share in the upcoming weeks (to keep you all busy during the Holiday break).
