Tufts University

Tufts is a medium-sized, liberal arts research university in Medford, Massachusetts. Medford isn’t the most exciting college town I’ve visited, but there are plenty of restaurants and bars. Boston (the best college city, in my opinion in the country) is an easy subway (or T) ride away. Tufts is a selective school and draws students from all over the world. Tufts is academically rigorous and students enroll in one of three colleges; school of arts and sciences, engineering or school of museum of fine arts. There are about 5,500 undergrads (and 10,000 total students). The most popular majors are international relations, economics, biology, computer science, engineering, classics, philosophy and child study/human development. The majority of classes are taught by full professors and students remark about how engaged and accessible their professors are. Also, almost ¾ of classes at the school have fewer than 20 students in them. Talk about a great teacher:student ratio.

One thing that I love about Tufts is the flexibility it gives students to explore and the strength in varied courses. The engineering school even has writing and liberal arts requirements (which I think is a huge strength).

All freshmen and sophomores live on campus, there’s an active Greek scene at Tufts and sports are Division III fielding 29 teams. There are also plenty of performing arts on campus and activities on campus.

If you are considering Georgetown, Brown, Northwestern or Washington University in Saint Louis, Tufts is worth considering.
