Dual Enrollment vs. Concurrent Enrollment vs APs

I am currently working with my clients on their summer plans and thought I’d provide some clarity around college courses. I generally encourage students to take the AP/IB courses available at their high school. Dual enrollment is great if you want to explore a specific interest or potential major, like psychology, business, interior design, nutrition or computer science.

What is Dual Enrollment?

Dual enrollment lets current high school students to take college-level classes. These classes count for both high school and college credit.

The types of dual credit classes varies by high school and school district. Many high schools include introductory college coursework in subjects like Humanities, English, Math, Social Studies and Science.

What is Concurrent Enrollment?

Concurrent enrollment occurs when a student takes a course  at their high school but gets college credit for it,. These courses are typically taught by a high school teacher.
