5 things Juniors should be doing right now
Somehow it’s already mid-October! As I’ve busy supporting the class of 2025 with their applications, I didn’t want to forget to offer some advice to the Juniors as you approach the back half of the fall semester.
Here are 5 things juniors should be doing right now:
- Make sure you set up a meeting with your school counselor if you haven’t already. When you apply to college you will need their support. I can’t tell you how many seniors do not have an established relationship with their counselor, but now is the time to meet with them and let them know you’re planning on applying to a four year college and share any other goals you may have.
- Establish relationships with your teachers. You will need letters of rec from your junior year teachers; make an effort to get to know them and to participate in your classes.
- Testing plan: now that the SAT & ACT are becoming required at more and more schools (and many schools that are test optional are really test-preferred…more on that later), please make sure you have a plan for testing for this year. You should be done with tests by the summer of 2025.
- Extracurriculars: please make sure you are engaging in meaningful activities outside of school. What does this mean? Work, community service, research, clubs – there is no right answer, but find something that is meaningful to you!
- Start putting together a resume/activity list to keep track of what you are doing outside of school.
